Day 24 and Beauty & The Beast

I know what it’s like, I’ve been there, to feel like you can’t pray, to feel burdens so heavy that it takes everything you have to put one foot in front of the other.  Carrying such a heavy load that you don’t feel God is listening, that you begin to doubt your salvation.  These are the times that you lean on your Christian family the most, the times you let them help you carry that heaviness, the time you need them to pray for you, on your behalf.  Encourage others around you in this situation.  It’s a tough place!  Go before the throne room and plead with God to bless them and lighten their load.  Today I find myself burdened for one of “those” friends, I’m heartbroken for their needs, teary for their hurts.  Their journey is hard, the road is long but God will carry them through.  We must go through the valley to stand upon the mountain.  Though we may be empty but God is full and His grace is sufficient for His children.  Let’s be the “two or three” that gather ❤

I got up this morning thinking “I’d like to make some cinnamon bread for my family and then tomorrow I’ll use that to make them (eggless) french toast” :p  Started mixing and then it hit me…. I WANT BE HOME TODAY!!  I got the bread in the oven but we won’t be having it today :/  Realizing the bread won’t be ready for breakfast today and the fact I can’t really rely on DH to take it out of the oven I decided to also make some Paleo Strawberry Breakfast Cookies which I already know my family loves ❤ ❤ (I however will be having an FP shake due to all of yesterday S’s that have left me feeling “thick” this morning)

What I ate today:

I woke up feel so much better today, dare I say “fantastic” but that seemed to be short lived.  I haven’t felt great since that horrendous knock in the head the other night.  I had a “spell” while driving today but luckily I was sitting in “stop’n go” traffic (Praise the Lord, God is so good).  Had I been MOVING there would have been disaster.  Met up w/ my cousin for our mom’s day out together (we do this maybe once a month), today we went to see Beauty and The Beast.  Can I just say I had some hesitancy with taking my little when it first came out.  It was all the hype I was hearing about a homosexual couple kissing and the “obvious” love of a man for another….yes, it had me concerned.  Hey listen, I don’t judge people for how they live but I ain’t bringing it into my home ya know?

Oh my soul the Cinematography of this movie (I hope I’m using that word correctly….had it been a cartoon I would’ve said the animation…) was completely amazing!  The actors chosen for each part, in my opinion were spot on (except for one)!  Emma Watson as Belle?  Oh well, I believe she may now be my favorite actress! I LOVED IT!

The original, animated version is still one of my favorite Disney movies (but ya’ll, even in that one the “three bar ladies” were “scantly clad” and Gaston was showing a hairy chest…no hairy chest in this one.  I must admit, I was NOT crazy about the fella who played Gaston as I expected it to be a much physically larger man).  And the homosexuality?  The kiss?  I NEVER SAW A MAN KISS!  Yes, Le Fleur had an obvious man crush on Gaston but it wasn’t like he was all over him…kids wouldn’t pick up on it.  When the wardrobe dresses three men as women, two scream and run away while the third turns to smile, well if I’m not mistaken that was in the original animated one as well (I plan to rewatch it to see) and at the end Le Fleur and that man do have a dance (quickly seen as they bump into each other and make eye contact).  Bottom line, I give Disney a thumbs up on this one and I will be taking my little to see it 🙂

I’m sorry I haven’t had much nutrition talk lately, I’ve got so much going on trying to maintain all my facebook groups, hotsparkmama, my schooling,  ebay, the kids’ ball schedules and still keep a happy home ❤  I ain’t gonna lie, this life ain’t for the faint of heart, I love every minute of it but I am TOO BUSY!  Therefore, I will be taking a short break from here (not exactly sure how long).  There are some Advo changes being made and I have to determine what I can and can’t share here (which means there may be quite a bit of editing and/or removal of a LOT of posts).  AND I have a friend who wrote an amazing book about motherhood that I need (AND WANT) to finish in order to write a review 🙂

Day #11 AdvoCare 24DC & cookie recipe

Where’d she go..go..go..go..goooooo?
Welp, she was up there in them hills a few days and there was all that catching up to do!

Well…… here I am!  Coming humbly before you with my failures and my faults.  What kinda dumb dumb am I planning a cleanse when I’m going out of town?  Oh, I thought “I’m strong, I’m motivated, this is easy!”  Ummm… what was that about NO SUGAR!!! I did carry snacks and plenty of water everywhere we went and I stayed on track for breakfast every day (except the day we had Paula Deen’s fruit dip and “sweet piggies in a blanket”) :/ but then it pretty much went downhill from there HaHa  Seriously, I didn’t have a lot of sugar but I did have it each day… and the dairy? Well, I didn’t have icecream but I had this delicious grilled chicken with avocado, bacon, lettuce & tomato that I didn’t even realize had swiss until I was almost done!  I failed! Not miserably (because I truly enjoyed every minute) but I admit defeat.  But ya know what, GOD NEVER FAILS!  His love for us was the same when we were lost and throwing our lives away 🙂  He forgives us when we ask and loves through the hills and the valleys ❤

I normally don’t check weight until Day #11 but because I was going out of town I wanted to know how well (or not) I was doing in order to determine how much it changed while out of town.  Easter morning (the day we left) I got up to find I’d lost 3 pounds (day #5), I didn’t have time to measure.  At my return (checked am on day #10) I had gained 2 lbs BUT ya wanna hear something funny?? I’d swear to you that 2 lbs was muscle!  We walked 6-9 miles, up and down hill every day (I always wall sit while brushing my teeth)  and my leg muscles feel every bit of it.  I don’t FEEL the 2 lbs (as strange as it sounds; I know because I used to laugh at people when they said it, I can FEEL when I gain/lose…).

Day #11

For dinner I spent an hour and a half prepping for a homemade pizza!  I was super excited…cutting up fontina and mozzarella cheese, smushing tomatoes for sauce, chopping onions and spinach, even cutting pits out of olives for my husband… but THE DOUGH?!?!  I DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!  I may have had too much oil on the parchment paper and it got mixed in with the dough but it wouldn’t flattened and the more I tried the worse it got, so I decided to ball it up and start over…then it got “hard” and when i tried to stretch it, it tore :/

It takes a little longer to get in the swing of things w/ the MNS because of the “30 minute before meal” pack.  IF you should happen to forget the “before lunch” you can take it before anything (snack or dinner) (y) you just don’t wanna leave it on an empty stomach.

All day I’ve been singing a Dolly song (Why’d ya come in here looking like that w/ your cowboy boots and painted on jeans?  All dressed up like a cowgirl’s dream.  Why’d ya come in here looking like that?) HaHa but now there’s that “second verse, same as the first” (remember that from GHOST? lol).  I feel like I’m “stuck” here…like I’m starting over AGAIN, ON DAY 12! Pray for me y’all, I ain’t gonna lie, closer I get to 50 the more I realize it’s getting a little harder to drop than the first time :/  But that’s OK!  Weight is just a number, as long as I’m HEALTHY, I’m happy 🙂

Day #5 AdvoCare Cleanse and sunscreen options

Regardless of whether you are FOR OR AGAINST vaccinations this documentary is a must see!  The Truth About Vaccines

I, along with the rest of world was brought up to believe you couldn’t go outside unless you were slathered down with sunscreen.  “Sun causes cancer”…. does it?  NOW, at almost 50, I personally believe the chemicals IN the sunscreen are actually what’s causing the cancer (yes, my husband thinks I’m crazy too haha).  I do agree that allowing the sun to damage your skin (ex. sunburn) can be extremely dangerous.

Through my nutritional and essential oil studies over the last 4 years I’ve changed my view on a LOT of things!!  I never realized how blindly I just “followed the crowd” until I STOPPED following and started researching!

So if our skin is our largest organ and it absorbs everything it comes in contact with then it goes to prove that if we’re using synthetic sunscreen the chemicals are being absorbed into our bloodstream!!

With such gorgeous Spring days lately I’ve really started thinking about and realizing it’s time to prepare for summer…. 1st the cleanse (continuing through 24DC) to remove built up toxins and  jumpstart my clean, healthy eating plan (AGAIN) and next making sure my family is protected 🙂

We NEED sunshine, we NEED what it offers!  Did you know that 90% of the population is Vitamin D deficient?  It’s because we’ve grown up being and slathering our own kids in a complete sunblock for fear of cancer.

You need to find a good sun protection recipe with a nano-free zinc oxide as your base… I ain’t gonna lie, it’s not the easiest thing to rub on but IT WORKS!!  For myself, I like an oil base so I use organic coconut oil and add essentials oils (including helicrysum and lavender…by my calculations I have a coverage equal to about an 8) and yes these still need to be reapplied every 2-4 hours depending on if you’re getting wet or not.  IF you’re a swimmer (which i’m not, I just like to dip my feet in the pool long enough to cool off) the oil option wouldn’t work well for you…there will be an “oil” film floating across the water.

I use non-nano zinc oxide powder which I purchased off Amazon, cocoa butter, beeswax and coconut oil…. NOW, I believe that doTERRA essential oils are THE BEST and most natural on the market however I know that carrot seed oil has “SPF protection of about 28-30” so if you know a brand you TRUST that carries this oil it would be most beneficial for your homemade sunscreen!  Personally I don’t have a lot of trust in other brands and we don’t carry it so I use my helicrysum 🙂  I just found a recipe from holisticsquid that supposed to rub in easier than what I made last year….

Homemade sunscreen ingredients & supplies
(makes 1 cup homemade sunscreen)

  • 2 ounces beeswax
  • 2 ounces cocoa butter
  • 2 ounces coconut oil
  • 2 ounces liquid oil – total (combination of these jojoba, carrot seed, argan oil)
  • 2 ounces zinc
  • Kitchen scale
  • Double boiler (I use a metal bowl over a small pot of simmering water)
  • Squeeze tubes, optional – I love these refillable, silicone tubes

Homemade sunscreen method

  1. Finely grate the beeswax and weigh the grated bits to 2 ounces.
  2. In a double boiler, melt the beeswax, cocoa butter, and coconut oil until liquid. Remove from heat.
  3. Slowing whisk in the zinc, stirring until all lumps are gone. When this mixture is slightly cooled, stir in the liquid oil until well combined.
  4. Use a butter knife to scoop the sunscreen into the squeeze bottles. Or store in a glass jar with a lid.

Feel like you don’t have time to make your own.  There are a few brands I’ve felt safe using over the last couple of years that seem to work well but they do come with hefty price tags and ya can’t just walk into your local Walgreens to grab a bottle at the beach :/  so be sure to look ‘em up before your vacation to allow for shipping time

Tomorrow is Easter (Day 6) and we serve a risen Saviour therefore my family will be attending a sunrise service (8am) followed by a full breakfast on the grounds and then our regular service 🙂  If you live in the Greensboro, NC area check out CharityBC.org for directions, I’d love to have you join me!  After services are over I’ll be travelling into the Smoky Mtns with two of my children and will be OFF THE GRID until our last day of cleansing.  I know, I know, you’ll miss me while I’m gone hahaha but know that I’ll still be trying to stay on plan while I’m away (& trust me, I’ll share with you when I return).  Pray for us (pray for ME….have you ever eaten at Paula Deens? lol)

I believe I had my first crossover today with my avocado smoothie :/  I wanted to use up what’s left in the fridge since I’m heading out of town tomorrow.  There’s was half avocado, almost rotten apple, few carrot sticks and pineapple.  Oh my word that was the most delicious smoothie ever!!!! 😛   crossover

I took my little to a movie so there had to be popcorn!  I thought I was strong enough to have a little and STOP…I wasn’t :/  And what is it about eating “off plan” that makes ya not wanna eat.  I mean seriously, NOT HUNGRY!

Day #4 AdvoCare Cleanse & detoxing

UGGG…awakened by another headache?  I guess I shouldn’t complain because to be quite honest I expected it to be a lot worse.  I mean seriously the first one came and went so quickly, did I really think I was done? HaHa   I don’t believe this to be a “detox” issue, I believe it to be a hydration one.  Ya figure as much water as I drink during the day…then I go 6-8 hours without so my body starts screaming “drown me” lol~  Other than the slight headache…. Yes, I’m feeling mighty fine, I’ve got heaven on my mind (actually I woke up with… If you got chains, he’s a chain breaker…over and over AND over) 😀

We deal with pollutants invading our bodies on a daily basis.  We eat, live and breathe toxic substances, from the paint on our walls to cleaning supplies.  Everything from the air we breathe to the water we drink more than likely contains some sort of toxin.  And don’t even get me started on our food source!

Thankfully, our bodies are designed to process and expel these toxins but how much can it do on its own? We put so much junk into our bodies these days, some we do on purpose, some unawares, that even the healthiest bodies can be overwhelmed.

If left untreated, toxins can lead to any number of diseases, including cancer, allergies, immune disorders, hormonal imbalance and mental health, among others. This is why we need to regularly detox our bodies to maintain optimal health.  I’m not talking about those crazy fad detoxes where you drink tea for three days or eat nothing but cabbage (big eye roll).  I’m talking about for real detox through nutrition!!

Using essential oils to rid yourself of the harmful pollution that we’re forced to live with is one of the more safe and natural methods.

There are 3 ways essential oils can be incorporated into a detox protocol:

  1. Topical Application by making your own non-toxic health and beauty products
  2. Daily Aromatic Use
  3. Safe, CPTG Internal Use

Here are the best essential oils that can be used to help detoxify the body:

  1. Lemongrass
  2. Melaleuca
  3. Lemon
  4. Rosemary
  5. Clove
  6. Peppermint
  7. Myrrh

Some easy yet extremely effective ways you can start using essential oils to help flush toxins from your body include:

  1. Take a detox bath two to three times a week adding Epsom salts and essential oils
  2. Try oil pulling with essential oils three to four times a week
  3. Keep cleansing oils running in a diffuser

Essential oils are powerful! Handle them with care. Ensure you are only using the highest quality essential oils.

Today being our first day of Spring Break I decided to allow the little to sleep in (at least until 7am, yep she too is an early riser) I didn’t want to get started in the kitchen at the buttcrack of dawn but couldn’t wait to have something to eat.  I don’t normally have an all-fruit breakfast as I feel it’s too much “sugar” pounding the pancreas all at once.  Anytime the kids want “just fruit” they still eat cashews.  Are you aware that pairing a protein with your carbs allows for slower absorption of those “sugars” and will help to sustain you longer.  Plus I knew by the time I got the cantaloupe down she’d be up and I was right but WHAT E breakfast would I have?  My “go to” when I want to add fruit to breakfast is always oatmeal!  I use homemade almond milk (making it dairy-free) to cook the oats then add cinnamon and maybe a splash of homemade vanilla and/or dab of honey as sweetener (YES, I do use honey!)

What I ate today:

S/Egg Roll in a Bowl w/ half avocado 16 oz avocado eggroll

FP/Hamburger patty (no bun) and cucumber slices 16 oz mushroom swiss(family had mushroom swiss and homemade fries)
E/Mango Berry Protein Smoothie (w/ spinach & almond milk) + OmegaPlex mango shake
16 oz
Herbal Cleanse pills & magnesium 8 oz

 

CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRY SMOOTHIE
1 cup frozen strawberries
½ cup almond milk
½ cup water
1 Tbsp raw cacao
1 drop vanilla stevia
1 scoop chocolate protein (I omitted but my “gut-healing” protein was vanilla and with 7g fat would’ve put me into crossover territory)

**I thought the cup of strawberries would’ve made this smoothie an E however after deducting the fiber it dropped to FP (woohoo–that’s really where I like my snacks to be)

Egg roll in a bowl is an easy delicious FP meal but I really wanted some avocado so that pushed me into S territory ❤

Mango Berry Smoothie could’ve been FP with less mango (I use Dr. Axe Whey Protein which is FP with it’s 1g F and >2g C whoop whoop)

I woke up feeling fantastic this morning!!! I mean, I was little tired (going to bed late after church and getting up early) but it didn’t last long…my bloated tummy looked flatter and it didn’t HURT!!!

Yesterday I found a new Organic Superfood Blend smoothie I couldn’t wait to try (wasn’t too bad) so that was breakfast and I headed out with my water!  What is it I’ve said so many times?  Never leave the house unprepared!  Always carry a water/snack bag cause ya just never know!  What’s happened the last two days?  I’ve left UNPREPARED, no bag!  But, uh, I’m just dropping kids off at school and walking, I’m coming right back home…. UH, NEVER!  Arriving at school this morning my 9yo says, “We aren’t having an Easter party today just an egg hunt, teacher said if any parents want to send snacks we can share…but I forgot to tell you last night.”  What does my little mommy heart say??? “I HAVE TO GIVE THEM A PARTY!”  Yep, $60 later (craaaaazy) I head back to school with my multiple bags full of everything from fruits & veggies to toothpicks and paper products HaHa, I’m locked out of the school (which I appreciate they lock the perimeter doors but…), once I manage to find someone to let me in I walk in and the teacher says, “Oh we weren’t going to have a party today!  I didn’t wanna have to deal with all this.”  She later explained she didn’t want the kids too sugared up (knowing she had candy in the eggs) this afternoon, which I can relate, that is why I got grapes, pineapple, carrots & broccoli….but then I thought “Hey, this is a party” so I added bakery baked cookies, popcorn and real apple juice then as I realize I need paper products (and I’m HANGRY) where  I happen to see donuts buy 1 get one free.  What?  I don’t buy sugary stuff for my own kids yet what do I do? I buy the stupid “mini” donuts (big eye roll).

At this point it’s time for my snack and I haven’t even walked yet!!  I manage to make it two miles around the track in 25 minutes, down 16 oz and found cashews in my emergency stash (so, see, unbeknownst to me, I was prepared lol).

I don’t know about y’all but my days NEVER work out like I PLAN!

Oh, but I’m not done!  I get home and my husband wants me to ride with him to the repair shop and honey, I don’t care what I’m doing when my husband wants me to go anywhere I GO!  Knowing he would want to stop to eat at some point I grabbed the leftover cucumbers/tomatoes and eat them immediately (bc remember i’m hangry and those cashews were not enough for me).  I felt more human after those were gone but of course by the time we’re done it’s time to eat again and he wants breakfast.  I went into that restaurant wanting a grilled chicken salad but when I saw all the breakfast food (my favorite) I thought I can do this.  Ordered 3 scrambled eggs which came w/ shredded hash browns and I pushed the toast over to the side.  Y’all, I ate ALL those potatoes with my eggs and a slice of dry toast.  The toast!  I had no desire for the toast, haven’t even wanted bread (even passed on the jelly our waitress offered!)!! But guess what, I ate the toast 😦  ONE SLICE!  Guess what else?  I got that lil’ throat clearing thing going on, my tummy didn’t feel well and I’M BLOATED!!!  (I should probably interject here that I do not tolerate wheat very well, nor dairy, nor caffeine, nor sugar lol)

What do you do for cravings?  Personally I start with drinking water (I’ll take three Catalyst if it’s a strong one) and I ain’t gonna lie, the first day or two I’ll eat every 2 hours!!!!  I just focus on incorporating foods WITHOUT A LABEL when it’s “extra”.  But I gotta be quite honest the “cravings” are usually curbed on their own by day #3 and with me it’s not so much cravings as I just ENJOY EATING!  BUT, I know for a fact this is a good time to incorporate essential oils (y)

For cravings in general (like you just WANT and it’s nothing PARTICULAR) reach for ginger, grapefruit, peppermint or Metabolic Blend.  But what do most people crave when coming off sugar?  S-U-G-A-R!!!  The Metabolic Blend is still a great option here but the #1 oil to kick that sugar to the curb is cassia, then cinnamon, clove and again grapefruit.

TIP – Try your own “Crave Away” by placing 1-3 drops of grapefruit into palms, rub hands together vigorously; cup hands together and slowly inhale.  May augment with a drop of patchouli.

**Devotion post –  This morning while reading 2 Peter 1:4 over and over I kept wondering how could I explain this to a lost person… even reading a commentary that goes along w/ it I couldn’t manage to put it into my own words where I felt a lost person would understand. I received such blessings simply reading this commentary passage that I wanted to share…

Those who receive the promises of the gospel partake of the divine nature. They are renewed in the spirit of their mind, after the image of God, in knowledge, righteousness, and holiness; their hearts are set for God and his service; they have a divine temper and disposition of soul; though the law is the ministration of death, and the letter killeth, yet the gospel is the ministration of life, and the Spirit quickeneth those who are naturally dead in trespasses and sins. Those in whom the Spirit works the divine nature are freed from the bondage of corruption. Those who are, by the Spirit of grace, renewed in the spirit of their mind, are translated into the liberty of the children of God; for it is the world in which corruption reigns. Day 2 AdvoCare Cleanse & Tips for tension

(SORRY FOR THE DELAY—I’VE HAD TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES.  REAL ONES NOT JUST BEING A SLACKER)

Listen y’all, I KNOW why people cave when they don’t have a plan in place or a good support group or maybe just lack motivation…..THE HEADACHE!  My wake up call this morning wasn’t the rooster call in my head or any alarm clock, it was the pounding of drums on my temples.  Seriously, just ONE FULL day with NO SUGAR and I wanna run straight to Krispy Kreme for a dozen hot glazed!  However, instead, I gave myself a few extra minutes to lay in the bed (while stretching my back), I will pump up the volume (yea, remember that one?) on my water intake and Tension Blend will be my best friend to get me through this….and yes, this too shall pass 🙂

What do you do when the headaches kick in?  Do you run to the cabinet for OTC pain relievers or are you a more natural mama like myself?  My first go to is always try water!  A lot of time dehydration will mask itself thru headaches (and hunger).  When a bottle of water doesn’t ease it (& this usually starts rather quickly if it’s a hydration issue) I reach for essential oils!  Most people will find relief from simply using a little Peppermint on their temples (and that works especially good for me if it’s a sinus headache) but I find the Tension Blend works better for me.  I roll a little on both my temples and this morning the back of my neck (base of my head) as I can feel a little sum’n sum’n going on there!  That bad boy roller is gonna be attached at the hip today!  Seriously, it’s in that little pocket pocket HaHa

I’ll tell ya another lil’ goody you might not know to help w/ headaches… L-GLUTAMINE AND did you know that fish oils are better for inflammation that ibuprophen?  Yep, I’ve “tested” it and it’s for real!! Therefore, I’ll be having those with  breakfast 🙂

Here’s a little something ironic—I opened an email from healthyginger this morning and what was it about?  HEADACHES! HaHaHa  Here’s what Alex & Megan said about naturally alleviating specifically tension headaches…
#1. Bentonite Clay Poultice
This one is a new one for us and we’ve been super happy with how it works! You basically make a “mud” out of bentonite clay. Start by mixing ½ a cup of bentonite clay with ¼ cup of water in a small bowl (but you can play with the proportions). Apply the bentonite clay mud onto an old wash cloth. Lay down somewhere comfortable and place the poultice over your neck and shoulders. After about 15-20 minutes, take off the wash cloth and wipe down the area with a clean towel.

#2. Snow Angel Weighted Stretch
Alex learned this move from a chiropractor and has been using it for years! You start by finding small weights (like 2 lbs) or using something like water bottles. Then lay down on the grounding holding your weighted objects in each hand. With your spine flat on the ground, you make snow angels on the ground by keeping your arms straight and completing the full range of motion from down by your legs all the way up over your head. You’ll likely hear some crackling and grinding…which is ok! If you feel any pain or pinching, ditch the weights and go without; alternatively, making the motion smaller until you’ve worked your way up to the full range of your joints.

#3. Alternating Heat and Ice Packs
Tight muscles are muscles that aren’t getting good blood flow. When there isn’t good blood flow to muscles, toxic byprducts accumulate and can cause pain. Increasing blood flow by alternating application of heat and ice can be a really great way to relieve tension headaches! You can do this by applying a heat pack for 5 minutes and then an ice pack for 5 minutes…and repeating the process for 3 rounds. Alternatively, you can get in the shower and blast your neck and shoulder area with hot and cold water. This is more for the brave at heart 🙂

#4. Apply essential oils
Peppermint and lavender is a mix we really love for tension headache relief. We usually mix 5-8 drops each into a teaspoon of coconut oil. We then apply the mixture to the neck, shoulders, base of the skull, and temples. If you’re a DoTerra fan, we’re big into using their PastTense mixture as a tension headache relief.

And for PREVENTING TENSIONS HEADACHES…

#1. Move in a wider range of motion
We talked above about how stagnation in the upper body (but really even lower body) can be a cause of recurring tension headaches. Since a tight shoulder girdle is a common offending problem, shoulder stretches and strengthening can be a really big help. One of our favorite things is hanging! You can hang from doorways, pull up bars, or even tree branches to strengthen that entire system and increase your range of functional movement. #2. Regular Epsom Salt Baths
To loosen up chronically tight muscles and keep things from becoming stagnant, taking epsom salt baths regularly can go a long way. In addition to the hot water, the magnesium in the epsom salts is great for muscle health! Bonus: most people sleep better after an epsom salt bath so you get a two for one kind of deal 🙂
**I never take a bath without adding essential oils to help soothe, relax and/or sleep 😉

#3. Pay attention to your eyes
This is a part we haven’t talked about yet so far in the this topic! In addition to the neck and shoulders, our eyes play a big role in preventing tension headaches. First things first: make sure you’ve gone to the opthamologist to make sure your prescription or lack there-of is up to date. But super importantly is giving your eyes a break from looking up close all the time! Because most of us are looking at stuff up close for most of the day, it’s important to give your eyes a break and look long distance. It’s easiest to incorporate this into when you take movement breaks. Take a walk and take the opportunity to really look at your surroundings. This uses the full range of motion for your eyes (which also have tiny muscles and moving parts!) that need movement to stay health.

#4. Unclench your jaw
Many of us respond to stress by tightening up certain muscles. Besides the neck and shoulders, a lot of people will clench their jaw. Check with yourself regularly to make sure you’re not tightening up those muscles of your face. Puff out your cheeks a couple times, open and close your mouth, and wiggle your tongue around to make sure things are stable mobilized! (Bonus point if you’re ok with doing this in public 🙂 )

After drop off I head to the track and walked 1.3 miles (exactly 20 mins) and let me tell ya when ya hoof it like I do it’s a real workout.  I walk fast by nature, not like those competitive power walkers where ya think they’re bound to throw a hip out but I have LONG legs so I can really “get it” but I do get my arms involved as well.  I drank my water BEFORE my walk which was dumb because it was pretty warm out there and thought I’d die afterwards but then I discovered my little had a small handful of grapes leftover from her breakfast so I popped those little plump babies in and voila made it til I got home without needing the hearst.

I just realized I lied yesterday :/  It was purely accidental.  I’ve been studying up on the Detoxification Blend this morning and realized I misspoke yesterday when saying I hadn’t incorporated any essential oils in but I did I did (YAY me), I added this oil to my regimen TWICE even.  I rolled it over my liver in the morning and again in the evening after my shower (that memory makes me feel a little better haha).  I start each day with a drop of Frankincense under my tongue (ONLY recommend CPTG oils internally), Grounding Blend on the bottom of my feet (or back of neck) and my allergy blend roller (which I mix up from Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint & Protective Blend)

I have been putting off my Costco shopping for so long but today HAD to be the day!  I did carry water with me (but not enough because there wound up being a detour once I realized I’d FORGOTTEN TO NOTICE IT WAS MY BEST FRIEND’S BIRTHDAY!!) but thinking this would be a quick trip I didn’t “pack a bag” :/  I wound up finding a KIND bar which was delicious but not particularly THM approved BUT hello, better than a burger (or KK doughnut haha).  On the way home to drop off groceries before heading back out to church we got caught in 5:00 traffic 😦  I started “figurin” in my head…there would be NO time to eat and that just would not do!!  So what does this mama do?  “Hey, honey (9 yo) do you have a fork in your lunch box?  Can you reach that rotisserie chicken?”  YES I DID!  Sitting in that traffic I ate that bad boy teehee (well not the whole thing). #desperatetimes

How was your day 1 of AdvoCare 24 DC?

What is it about any detox/cleanse that makes ya THINK you’re always hungry?  It’s a mind game.  We tell ourselves we can’t have certain things so it’s only natural that we CRAVE those particular items.  Here’s the funny part, it’s usually something we do fine without on a regular basis to begin with lol~

Day 1 started like any other day only THIS DAY I HAD to check my weight (yuck)!  I’m not normally a weight checker.  I don’t wanna depend on that liar (aka scales) to determine what kinda mood i’ll be shackled to for the day.  I tend to just go by how I feel and how my clothes fit.  So, here’s the skinny….I’m NOT skinny anymore!  I know i’ve gained weight, I know I’ve lost muscle, I’ve had to buy bigger clothes and hello! I can see it in my face every time I look in the mirror.  The verdict was I have gained more than I realized :/  (I ain’t gonna lie, I’m up exactly 25 lbs from my lowest weight).  What did that realization do to me?  IT MADE ME MAD and INSECURE!  But that’s OK because I’m working on that with your guys 😉

Couple of very important things to remember… you should be drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water… you need to eat protein within an hour of waking each day to help boost your metabolism by 30% for the day…  you should be eating something nutritious every 2.5-3 hours…  if you are hungry EAT!  IF you happen to forget your herbal cleanse pills one night, just tack them onto the end of your cleanse and I suggest you take them AT BEDTIME (they tend to make me feel a little funny if I take them too early).

Just as babes grow with the proper nutrition so do new Christians. Babes start with the bottle and gradually work their way up to having teeth and chewing meat. New Christians start with “Jesus loves me” and should work their way up to chewing on the bread of life, God’s word. As a lost person, the bible “doesn’t make sense” but as you grow in Christ it all starts coming together.  Lord, thank you for the Holy Spirit! Thank you for your word! Thank you for your love! I pray that I will CONTINUE to grow in you. In Jesus name, Amen

…baked some “lil’ ham sandwiches” to pack for kids’ lunches, whooped up some homemade gluten-free chocolate chip waffles (topped with whipped cream and strawberries) with bacon for the family and made myself eggs.

I would normally not wait until today to start prep work however I didn’t get a chance to hit up Costco for all my supplies (but I did go to Harris Teeter for the stuff I HAD to have NOW!)  Today I made almond milk, almond flour, tapioca chia pudding, cut up the biggest head of cabbage I’ve ever seen, chopped cucumbers and tomatoes (for salad & alone), cooked huge batch of sprouted rice & quinoa AND boiled some eggs.

About 2:30 I found myself so tired I could hardly hold my eyes open and it hit me—I haven’t OILED a bit all day (insert wide eyes because I am the oil queen!  I’m always rolling and/or diffusing something).  Don’t get me wrong, I started my day with oils as always but I’ve been so preoccupied by the fact that I wasn’t prepared that I didn’t “take care of myself”.  By the time I got home (from picking up the little at school) I didn’t have time to be tired!  Dinner was served by 5, we had a little family time by the basketball goal and then in for showers and the exciting news that daddy is going to let ME take the kids a way for a couple days next week (woohoo).

Side bar—pray for my husband!  He has to go to the hospital next Monday for several tests (stress, EKG and 48 hours of being strapped to a heart monitor).  No, WE are not concerned but it’s something that has to be done and I’ve been assured he can do it on his own (my husband is pretty self-sufficient for the most part being that he was a bachelor until he was 40!  I still have to remind him sometimes he has a family now haha)

I still have two hours til bedtime so I will easily get in my 8,000 steps! 😉

Accomplished day #1 with NO SUGAR!!!  (of course the night is still young lol)

PS….I did walk one mile this morning (I was planning for 2 but I’m such a clutz!  I was trying to jump over my husband and off his side of the bed Sunday night….and well, I MISSED and scraped the inside of my left leg along the sharp edge of the railing…yes, it’s always an adventure

Shhh…it’s my secret

Actually it’s not much of a secret when everyone can SEE!

Y’all know I lost a total of 50 lbs three years ago…I went from a size 16/1X dress to a size 6 AND my health drastically improved! I give God all the glory and thank Him for literally dropping the simple steps into my lap!

It started with EZ changes like dropping “all things white” from my diet (sugar, breads and limited starches), consuming half my body weight in ounces of water and following the AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge supplemental program.

Over a 6-7 month period I ate more food than should be normal HaHa (every 3 hours) and focused on clean meats, fresh (steamed mostly) veggies and organic fruits. I cut out all Starbucks frappucinos and limited my dessert treats to special occasions.

I didn’t deprive myself if I WANTED something I HAD it

Over time I began to realize I had once again become addicted to sugar! It creeped in slowly at first. Birthday cake at parties, dessert from the Sunday lunch buffet then added froyo on Wednesday nights before church and frappucinos couple times a week (once pumpkin spice RE-entered the lineup)…

Just before Halloween rolled around my 9yo started selling candy ($.25/) to help raise money for her babies in the Philippines and once all the children at school started noticing her “income”, well let’s just say they all found a “reason” and it got outta hand! Of course Halloween came & went and we couldn’t give the stuff away.

I’m a human trash compactor…I do not like to throw stuff away and tho I limited the intake of my family members (due to the plethora of allergies) I took it upon myself to get rid of it 🙄

Ya know what happened then… Thanksgiving!!!
T-day is the one time of year my husband insists I fix a “normal, traditional” meal “because we have non-allergen family coming over and we will feed them stuff they’ll enjoy”. Though I do understand his desire to feed his family (once a year) with their favorite dishes, this past year NOBODY CAME!!! The 6 from his family nor the 10 from mine…I cooked a full meal complete with multiple desserts for the entire crew.. and just US 7 ate!! And I ate and I ate and I ate… Christmas the following month, same shenanigans, family dropped like flies!

I knew 2017 had to include CHANGE! I had once again found things getting outta hand. I purchased size 10 jeans around Christmas that were uncomfortably tight. My sleep patterns were OFF! I found it difficult to be my usual early (420am) riser, go all day, happy-go-lucky self. I had aches and pains that had once become null and void AND the heartburn is now back!!

Here we are today… I turned 47 this past week and I’m up 25 lbs!!

Listen y’all I’m just keeping it real! I ain’t gonna lie, as a health coach that’s helping others break bad habits, lose weight and improve health, it’s very disheartening to have lost my own mojo! And another joyful side effect of finding myself in this start of an unhealthy predicament is that my husband doesn’t get his mojo either (*wink wink)
<—–THIS is what caused me to stop and take note of the situation.

You see, I’ve been here, this is where it all started 4 years ago and it’s really easy to let it keep going in the direction I’m headed but do I really wanna wake up one day and find myself in that position? Back over 200lbs, neglecting my mate due to physical insecurities, being uncomfortable in my own skin with a multitude of health issues that could potentially end my life (**side bar–I do not currently have any health issues to speak of per-say and what little things (like allergies, colds, headaches and heartburn) do pop up I’m able to treat/alleviate with essential oils) and so exhausted that I can’t bear another conversation about what elementary drama my 3rd grader has at school (bless her heart, life’s tough for a 9yo lol)

Yep, this is the year!
Now is the time to practice what I preach and once again put my foot down on the head of this monster!
I’ve won this battle once and I’m ready to wage war and “go home with the W” for the last time!

I have my plan in place (in my head not yet on paper…that’s pretty scary haha).
I’m starting with another AdvoCare 24DC (eliminating dairy, gluten & sugar), I will implement clean eating using the principles of THM (Trim Healthy Mama, still eating but separating fats & carbs), I will exercise by walking 1-2 miles 3-4/week (depending on weather) and incorporating 30 Days to Shred in between (or some other DVD as I no longer have a Zumba instructor and do not see the need for a gym membership) and I will use my essential oils to boost immunity, curb cravings and fight all the “mental” junk that can go along with detox!!

I predict within the next 60 days I WILL look and feel like the person I love to be physically. Here’s a real “kick-in-the-butt” key, I will also be growing Spiritually as I have neglected my Lord as of late as well. I haven’t been starting my days abiding with my saviour and I know the time I spend studying his word and meditating on scripture are the most important BREAD in my diet!

Days 9 and 10 ALL IN 24DC & THM

Day 9 / January 20 (Deep S)

Upon waking – Mix 16 oz of water with one pack of fiber and scoop (½)  of Spark and take the probiotic pack and 3 Catalyst

Follow up with another 8-16 oz of water

BREAKFAST – Fields of green omcake (Pg 240 Cookbook) this is basically eggs with a buttload of spinach

SNACK – Chicken salad and “just like wheat thins” crackers (because when ya got it you need to eat it) 🙂

LUNCH – Just like campbells tomato soup (Pg 292 Original)

30 minutes before snack 3 Catalyst and ½ scoop Spark

SNACK – Volcano mud slide muffin (Pg 274 Cookbook) with Whipped NoCream (Pg 490 Cookbook)

DINNER – Turkey over brown rice noodles w/ homemade sauce

Remember you do NOT HAVE to add your fiber to your Spark! That’s just how I enjoy it.  You can add as much or little water as you’d like to your fiber drink.  Some people just use 4 oz because they wanna get it down and over with while others say it’s easier to drink “thin” and add 10-12 oz.  I had a couple who actually liked adding their fiber packet to their oatmeal each day, but they did have to continuously add water lol

As easy as it is to make almond milk, I wonder why more people don’t do it!  I mean seriously, I make it approximately every 2-3 days.  1 cup of almonds will produce 4 cups of milk and approx. 1-1.5 cups of almond flour.  Ya can’t beat that with a stick!  Plus, chances are if you’re buying your milk from the store it’s loaded with all sort of ingredients as well as at least one type of carcinogenic.  Don’t have time?  Let me know, I’ll make it for you 🙂  I love making my own products.  Almond flour, almond milk, almond butter, peanut butter, jelly, syrup, ketchup, deodorant, toothpaste, chapstick, perfume, soap, shampoo, moisturizer, shave cream, face wash, cleaning products….ok, well now I just feel like I’m bragging (truly not meaning to) but there’s a plethora of stuff and if I don’t know how or haven’t tried it yet, I can do that too!

Making the Field of green omcakes I thought there’s no way I’ll be able to eat all this!  BUT I DID!  It was delicious, I’m thinking it must’ve been the addition of the parsley and nutritional yeast that made the difference in the regular eggs/spinach I make.  Oh and I used the red palm oil because I’ve had it a while and never think to use it.  I can’t prove it but I think the “om” stands of OHHH MYYY haha

There’s something about a hot, steamy bowl of soup on a cold, blustery day and Ohhhh boy, if you like canned Campbell’s tomato soup you will absolutely flip over this!!  It truly does taste JUST LIKE CAMPBELL’s (it calls for heavy cream but I make a heavy cream from cashews…i know, i know, no nuts on Deep S but 2 Tbsp of cashew cream I don’t think is gonna hurt me) 😉  And y’all know I don’t believe in missing out on protein so I added some shredded chicken and gotta throw veggies in everywhere I can so it has some spinach in there too!  AND if y’all haven’t tried the Whipped NoCream now is the time!  I’ll never have another S muffin without it!!  Normally I would sweeten a lil’ greek yogurt but this option is dairy free and it’s a winner (y)

And btw, if you make the Volcano mud-slide muffin, do NOT overcook it!  You want the center to be gooey :p

Day 10 / January 21 (Deep S)

WooHoo!  You made it!  It’s day 10, the LAST day of Phase I aka the 10 Day Herbal Cleanse!

Now that wasn’t so bad was it?  Tomorrow is a very exciting day.  You get to check in w/ your weight and measurements (if you WANT to).  Keep in mind that your cleanse was NOT about losing weight!  It was about removing months or years of built up toxins in order to prepare your body for optimum absorption of the nutrients you’re fixing to add! However, there is sometimes the added benefit of a lil’ loss during the cleanse 🙂  

Our supplement schedule starts tomorrow too (whoop whoop).  Go ahead and get your MNS box out and get familiar with what to take when.  Your sleeve of supplements have four packs.  The first one (MNS3/yellow) is to be taken 30 minutes before breakfast with your Spark (Catalyst and ThermoPlus options can be added here).  The TWO packets at the bottom (MNS3/white) are to be taken WITH your breakfast.  Trust me, it’s not that bad BUT if you feel you can’t possibly take that many at once you can space them out between breakfast and lunch).  The second pack in the sleeve (MNS3/yellow) is to be taken 30 minutes before lunch ←—-this seems to be the one I tend to forget, in which case I take it before dinner OR if I forget that too, I just hang onto them for when I let myself run out of MNS and I need something (y).

Herbal Cleanse pills at bedtime

Oh boy, I woke up thinking today was my first FP day so it really threw me when I couldn’t find my FP meal plan and I already had a headache so it wasn’t a great start to the day.  But once I realized it’s my last Deep S day and I was getting French Toast in a bowl at least my mood felt better!  Headache actually WOKE me up during the night!  That doesn’t ordinarily happen to me anymore.  SOOO why do I have it?? Well here’s your TMI warning—-I’ll keep it clean and just say I am now cleansed and headache free heehee  Once the headache was gone I gotta lil’ cleaning grove on which should make my family happy BUTTTTT I lost track of time and decided to just hit the fridge/leftovers for snack AND lunch (hey, it was getting all fulled up in there! Now it looks like my fridge was cleaned too).  

Not only did some of the house get a good work over but I got to spend a lil’ time in the kitchen (my favorite place in the house).  Whooped up some fresh peanut butter, salad dressing and Best Macaroon Cookies (this may be my favorite S while the Meringue Cookies my favorite FP, but next time I make the macaroons I’ll add more sweetener or maybe homemade Truvia instead because the NuNaturals wasn’t quite enough) and I’ve got everything laid out for tonight’s sloppy joes.  **For the record, I did NOT have one of the rolls for my joes (well, I had a pinch of one and by a pinch it was less than half) because of the almond flour (being made from almonds…not supposed to have nuts on DeepS), wish I had thought ahead to make troodles, that woulda been good.  **Pearl and Serene (THM founders) used to call the macaroon cookies “poop cookies” and now I know why…

Tell me about your routine and what seems to be working well for you.  How’s your exercise going?  Will you put more effort into that or keep at the same pace for the Max Results phase?  The next 14 days will be the time to kick it into high gear because we ALL want some MAX RESULTS from our burn phase, this is where we’ll start to see some weight fall off if we’re needing to!!  Will you keep the same food guidelines or do you plan to add dairy back into your diet?  I can tell you that ONE of the top habits of healthy people is that they are actively aware of their food choices.  Have you seen those people I’m referring to?  It’s like they’re always happy and smiling, have beautiful clear skin, they’re full of energy and always moving!  You don’t always see them in the gym or running down the street but typically in the grocery store.  They’re the ones shopping around the perimeter of the store wearing an “eat the rainbow” t-shirt and if they pick up something with a label they always read ingredients.  A key for them is avoiding processed foods (as much as can be in their control).

Healthy people are consistently aware of and monitoring their health!  They track their food, nutritional intake and their overall physical performance by regularly exercising.  Often they re-evaluate their routine because it’s about improvement (running further, lifting heavier) and nothing seems to be beyond their reach.

Healthy people are always on the lookout for new habits and open to suggestions to help them continue to grow stronger in every aspect of their lives.  My habit to pass along is don’t be afraid to step outside the dietary box (chicken, brown rice and broccoli), expand your culinary skills, cook new foods and record which ones seem to boost your metabolism or make you slow your roll, which foods give you more energy or cause you to bloat.

LUNCH – Spinach Lane Soup (Pg 121 Cookbook made S version by adding more coconut oil) w/ chicken (and had to have a few more crackers for my crunch) 🙂

Herbal Cleanse Pills at bedtime

I love it when I feel I’ve been productive!  Got some Tapioca Chia Seed Pudding made up and in the fridge.  Chucked the last batch of skinny chocolate and replaced it with new and improved, deliciousness.  Soaking some cashews (for cashew cream) while making some ketchup and preparing for my essential oils class tonight.  I ain’t gonna lie, I never thought I could handle eating a spinach soup (I mean aside from the fact that it’s not aesthetically appealing) it just sounds so…idk…BLAH!  I am here to tell ya—it wasn’t the least bit blah, I added plenty of seasonings (garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and then some chicken for protein; I would shred the chicken if I made it again)  

I’m gonna give some good recipe resources to check out for those of you who are already tired of the “same ‘ole simple” menu and looking to add a lil’ adventure into your healthy eating 😉

When I first started Advo I was all about some simple protein, fruits and veggies but the family was not happy.  Then having new dishes became an obsession to the point that if we had something delicious they all loved my husband would announce, “I’ll guess we’ll never have this again” lol~  

How does your family feel about your get healthy journey?  Are they encouraging and offering you support or are they so on board you all eat the same thing?  I do NOT fix two separate meals, my family eats what I eat OR they don’t eat haha  Depending on what I fix there are sometimes variations to one meal 🙂  Can you FEEL that you’re making progress?  Ok, ok, how many of you have cheated?  I ain’t talking about food/sweets (but have you?), I’m referring to the scales.  My sister just said to me today, “I only weigh on the days I wake up and feel lighter” hahahaha
