2014 New Years Resolution tips

on January 1, 2014

January 1, 2014:  NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION

new year  How many times have we made those?  Wait, how old am I?  HaHa
WHAT IS a “resolution”? Well according to the dictionary: a decision or determination; a resolve: to make a firm resolution to do something.  The act determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.; the act of resolving.  Firmness of purpose; the mental state or quality of being resolved or resolute:

When speaking in terms of a new year’s resolution what it generally means is WISH LIST!  Things that you “wish” for in the upcoming years!  But how many of those “wishes” ever come TRUE?

WELL IT’S TIME TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!  Don’t just “wish” for something good, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
The simple act of WRITING out your goals is a huge step towards accomplishment!  Start keeping a journal!  It helps you to SEE what works & what doesn’t (it also helps hold ME accountable)

Set a timeline that you can ACHIEVE not some unrealistic goal.  You can’t overhaul your life the first week of January!

I know MOST ppl will have #1 goal of LOSE WEIGHT well I’m here to tell ya, YA CAN’T DO THAT BY NOT EATING!  You should be EATING!  You should eat approximately 5 times a day (woohoo).  NO! I don’t mean hit the drive-thru 5 times today, I mean have 3 regular/HEALTHY meals w/ 2 snacks in between…don’t allow yourself to get hungry!

You should not just eat to live but ENJOY what you’re eating!  IF you don’t love what you eat day 1 of a new plan then chances are day 2 won’t happen!

DON’T GO ON A DIET!  Short term diets never work (well I shouldn’t say never b/c some pple lose weight w/ a “diet” but chances are it’s put right back on once said diet is over.)

Make the decision to GET HEALTHY!  In turn, you WILL LOSE WEIGHT if that’s your main goal but better yet YOU’LL BE HEALTHIER AND LIVE LONGER 😀

Ditch the sugar and junk!!!!  No more hostess snack cakes…DON’T EVEN BUY ‘EM!

DON’T JOIN A GYM!  The new year brings many new clients to those places but if you’re 45 and have never gone, chances are you won’t go now either, you’ll just pay out the wazoo for equipment rental that someone else is using (sad but true).  Go for a walk (hey, it’s a great start).  You’ll find that walk WILL do you some good!  After a few times of that, you may feel like investing in some hand weights and/or an exercise video.  HEY, I’m NOT preaching against the gym!  But they ARE overwhelming for anybody who’s never been.  DON’T feel ya have to “go all in” from the get go, just get moving!

FAST WEIGHT LOSS SHOULD NEVER BE YOUR GOAL…remember slow & steady?  The tortoise did win the race ya know?!

Start your new year making some lil’ changes, once those are accomplished stretch them into bigger ones!  (Ex:  add more water (realistic goal: you should drink half your body weight in ounces of water), cut restaurant portions (goal of cutting out restaurants haha), start adding a home cooked meal at least one more time a week (I now cook 3x/day), spend 15 mins/3x a week getting some form of exercise; See how they start small & grow?)

MY GOALS?  I WANT TO BE NOURISHED, ENJOY WHAT I’M EATING, BRING MY FAMILY TO A STATE OF HEALTHY…I WANT TO TEACH MY CHILDREN HEALTHY EATING PATTERNS!  I WANT TO STAY OFF THE YO-YO TRAIN OF HEALTH!  I WANT TO CORRECT OUR HEALTH ISSUES W/ WHAT WE EAT…LET FOOD BE THY MEDICINE~

Stay tuned….I’m bout to break bad~ 😉
